Half of state CISOs say that the top barriers to their cyber programs are a lack of sufficient cybersecurity budgets (52%) and inadequate cybersecurity staff (50%). Another 48% say the increasing sophistication of threats is also holding them back.
The largest percentage of states (30%) allocate between 1 and 2 percent of their overall IT budgets to cybersecurity. A full 12 percent allocate between 6 and 10 percent of their IT budgets to cybersecurity.
IT decision-makers worldwide rank cybersecurity alongside cloud computing (50% each) as their biggest tech areas of investment for 2018. In North America, cybersecurity is slightly ahead, with 54% of decision-makers ranking it a top priority.
Almost half of states (49%) have 6-15 full-time cybersecurity professionals on staff, while 18 percent only employ between 1 and 5 cyber professionals.
